4 youths take PhD scholar hostage in hostel, rob him

Lucknow: Four youths held a botany PhD scholar hostage inside a hotel room after inviting him on the pretext of sharing study material. The incident was reported from Naka area of Lucknow. “Two youth stayed with the victim, Vivek Singh, while other two took away his credit and ATM cards and left. They did shopping on the cards and withdrew Rs 38,000 from Vivek’s bank account. The duo later returned to the hostel and released the victim,” said SHO, Naka, Tej Bahadur Singh.Vivek Singh, a resident of Bijnor road in Aashiana, immediately informed the police after which the accused were arrested.They have been identified as Shubham Raj, Roshan Kumar Pathak, Faisal and Attaullah — all natives of Bihar. Police recovered the entire cash and 3 gold chains which they had purchased by online payment, said Singh.The SHO said the accused used to befriend people on social media and later rob them by fixing meeting with them.
