2 teens drown while clicking selfies on boat
LUCKNOW: Two teenagers drowned in the Ganga river while clicking selfies on a boat in UP’s Rae Bareli district.
Three friends — Tauheed (17), Fahad (19) and Shaan (18) — went to the Payagpur Ganga Ghat in the district on Saturday afternoon and got into a boat to click selfies.
“While clicking selfies they moved towards the edge of the boat and lost balance and fell into the strong current of the river. Tauheed and Shaan were swept away while Fahad managed to swim ashore,” said circle officer Arun Kumar.
Locals alerted the police who then deployed divers to trace the missing boys. Tauheed and Shaan’s bodies were recovered only on Sunday morning. Both studied in Class 12. Shaan lived in Delhi and had come to his maternal uncle’s home in Rae Bareli with his mother in Bakrid. He was the only child of his parents. Fahad is pursuing BA.
Police have recovered the phone which was used by victims for clicking selfies and will send it for forensic test.
Shaan’s mother said he was home until Saturday afternoon and she had no clue that was going to the ghat with friends.
