2 arrested for smuggling FICN from Bangladesh

LUCKNOW: A team of the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) has arrested two people for smuggling fake Indian currency worth Rs 97,500 from Bangladesh via West Bengal to Uttar Pradesh. The arrested people were identified as Chandan Sainik and Deepak Kumar, both natives of Pratapgarh district. They were arrested from Varanasi based on information provided by an informant.

"The duo confessed to bringing the notes from Bangladesh and circulating them in UP and Delhi. The notes seized from their possession were of Rs 500 denomination," said Additional director general of police, ATS, Mohit Agarwal.

Agarwal added that the accused Deepak Kumar has previously been sent to jail by Pratapgarh police in a case of ganja smuggling, and the other accused, Chandan Sainik, has been jailed twice for ganja smuggling and vehicle theft.

ATS recovered six smartphones, fake currency and air tickets from West Bengal.
