LUCKNOW: A group of people entering the country illegally were held at Indo-Nepal border at Sonouli on Friday. The group was asked to show documents at a Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) outpost and were detained when they could not furnish relevant papers.
The group included eight children besides men and women in 30s and 40s. In charge of Sonouli police station Arvind Pratap Singh said the group was being interrogated by SSB.
The group is believed to have entered India with the support of some locals who were being hunted.
SSB found out the group was from various parts of Pakistan-Occupied-Kashmir.
"Senior officials of intelligence agencies were alerted. We want to find out specific details of why the group decided to cross over during election time and if they entered the country with nefarious intentions," said a source.
The group was being helped by few Nepal residents to cross over the border but security personnel stopped them. "Their dialect was unfamiliar and we then decided to detain them," he said. The group had arrived to the border town in Maharajganj district from Kathmandu.
