13-year-old accidentally shot dead at birthday party in Lucknow
LUCKNOW: A 13-year-old boy was shot dead accidently during a birthday party in Krishna Nagar on Monday evening.
Police said that they have detained all three minors who were present during the party and are questioning to piece together the sequence of event.
According to police statement, the incident occurred around 7 pm on Monday at house the house of a real estate agent in Krishna Nagar
"The victim, a class VII student and a resident of Sarojini Nagar police station, had gone to attend the 13th birthday celebration of his friend in same class," said ACP, Krishna Nagar Rajneesh Verma.
DCP, South, Nipun Agarwal, told TOI that family has given a complaint to police alleging intentional firing and a case under 103 (murder) of BNS is being registered as of now against the child and his father and the matter would be investigated. However, he mentioned that the case looks like an accidental firing.
The ACP said that children present at the party included 13 and 14 year olds along with the victim and the host child, whose birthday was being celebrated, now in conflict with law.
Police said that during the gathering, the children allegedly began handling the rivolver kept inside the house out of curiosity.
In the course of this, the weapon accidentally went off and one of the boys sustained a gunshot injury.
"He was immediately rushed by the house owner to Lok Bandhu Hospital, where doctors declared him dead, and simultaneously police were informed," added ACP Rajneesh.
"Police officials reached the spot soon after receiving information from the police station. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination and further legal proceedings are underway," said the ACP.
Family cries foul
The victim’s father who runs an electrical shop, said his son was taken away from home by his friends, saying they were going to a birthday party. At around 7:30 pm., the family was told there had been a road accident.
The family rushed to Lok Bandhu, where they were informed of his death. The father alleged that the he boy was shot in the head and an attempt was made to conceal the incident.
