Lucknow: Police issued show-cause notices to 13 students of
Lucknow University on Tuesday after they staged a
protest against a proposal to implement a dress code in colleges and universities in
Uttar Pradesh.
The notices were issued as the protest allegedly disrupted traffic between Hanuman Setu and IT College, leading to congestion. According to the notice, the students staged a demonstration at gate No. 1 of the university and attempted to block the busy route, causing disruption in vehicular movement and raising concerns over public order.
Meanwhile, the ongoing indefinite protest at LU by expelled students intensified on Tuesday, with more former student union office-bearers extending their support.
The expelled students have been staging a sit-in for the past week to protest the university’s decision to expel them on charges of obstructing the vice-chancellor’s (VC) movement without conducting a fair investigation. They said they were only demanding a reduction in the fee hike before the VC.
