10 UP cops get President’s medal for gallantry

LUCKNOW: After drawing a blank last year, Uttar Pradesh Police has a reason to cheer this year.


Its 10 officers have been selected for the President’s police medal for gallantry. In 2017, seven offices received the medals.

This year’s awardees are ADG law and order Anand Kumar, ASP (west Lucknow) Vikas Chandra Tripathi, ASP STF Vishal Vikram Singh, inspectors Anand Shahi and DK Shahi, sub-inspectors Satya Prakash Singh and Vinay Kumar Singh, head constable Bhanu Pratap Singh, and constables Yashwant Kumar Singh and Santosh Kumar Singh.

A team led by Anand Kumar had captured three terrorists of Khalistan Liberation Front from Sahibabad on March 11, 1993, while Vishal Vikram Singh had singlehandedly killed dreaded criminal Bagga Singh in an encounter on January 17, 2018 in Kheri.

Similarly, inspectors Anand Shahi and DK Shahi had killed a dreaded criminal Sunil Sharma on Shaheed Path in Lucknow on September 1, in 2017.

ASP (west) Vikas Chandra Tripathi had killed criminal Dharmendra Singh in an encounter in Gorakhpur. Cops Satya, Vinay, Bhanu, Yashwant, and Santosh were also part of the same operation.

Besides, six UP cops will get medals for distinguished services while 74 cops will get medals for meritorious services.
