Kannur: MLA from Kannur A P Abdullakutty said the Congress leadership decided to field him from Thalassery and K Sudhakaran from Uduma in Kasaragod to wrest these seats from the LDF. He was speaking on Tuesday after posters in Kannur town accused K Sudhakaran for shifting him to a new constituency to accommodate Satheesan Pacheni. "I know this will be tough, but UDF workers here are confident, so am I," he said, adding that he would be able to transform Thalassery just like Kannur.

"When elected from Kannur, I was able to start many projects to transform Kannur," said Abdullakutty, listing his achievements including the indoor stadium at Mundayad, the light and sound show at Kannur fort and the mini bypass. "Narrow political thinking and violence are hampering development here," he said, alleging that the CPM failed to bring development.

He gave credit to the UDF government for the new Moidu bridge at Thalassery. When it was pointed out that Thalassery was a CPM stronghold, he reiterated an observation made by E M S Namboothiripad - politics is not statistics.

However, the CPM is confident of retaining the seat with A N Shamseer.

Meanwhile, the decision of KC(M) to field controversial businessman Rajesh Nambiar as the UDF candidate in Taliparamba against CPM MLA James Mathew has shocked UDF circles with allegations of 'payment seat' also doing the rounds.
