Wayanad DCC treasurer, son die

Kozhikode: Wayanad DCC treasurer and his son, who had been hospitalised allegedly after consuming poison, died on Friday.
DCC treasurer and former president of Sultan Bathery panchayat N M Vijayan, 78, hailing from Manichira, and his son Jijesh, 38, passed away at the Kozhikode Govt Medical College Hospital. While Jijesh died at 6.30pm, Vijayan died around 9.30pm
Both were found lying in their house in serious condition allegedly after consuming poison on Tuesday evening. They were first taken to a private hospital at Sultan Bathery and later shifted to Kozhikode MCH. Their condition was serious and they were on ventilator support.
Vijayan had been a prominent Congress leader in Wayanad and had served as president of Sultan Bathery panchayat and later as councillor of the Sultan Bathery municipality.
Vijayan's wife Suma had passed away and Jijesh, who had earlier worked as a staff member at Sultan Bathery Urban Bank on contract basis, had of late been suffering from health issues.
