Vigilance arrests Thamarassery Taluk surveyor for accepting bribe after a mix-up

Kozhikode: The vigilance and anti-corruption bureau officials on Wednesday arrested a taluk surveyor at Thamarassery for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000.

Perambra native Abdul Nazeer M, 52, was arrested by the VACB officials while he was attending the sendoff function arranged for tehsildar C Subair at the Thamarassery mini civil station.

The VACB officials however made a mix-up and first nabbed the tehsildar mistaking him to be the surveyor. However, on realizing their error, vigilance officials apologized to Subair and nabbed Nazeer who was sitting among the audience in the sendoff function. The bribe money was also recovered from his pocket.

VACB sources said that the mix-up happened as the tehsildar and the arrested surveyor were wearing shirts of the same colour. VACB officials said that the arrested Abdul Nazeer sought a bribe of Rs 20,000 for surveying the land belonging to the father of complainant Kodiyathur native Ajmal. He had transferred Rs 10,000 to the surveyor on June 17 but the official demanded payment of the remaining amount before commencing the survey following which he approached the VACB.

Nazeer allegedly accepted the bribe from the complainant in the morning and proceeded to attend the sendoff function of the tehsildar following his transfer leading to the mix-up.
