KOZHIKODE: Two more persons have died due to suspected heatstroke in the state on Thursday. The victims---from Malappuram and Kozhikode, respectively----were under treatment at the Kozhikode government medical college hospital.

Mohammed Haneefa (62) of Padinjattumuri in Kootilangadi panchayat in Malappuram had collapsed while returning after working at a construction site at Thamarakuzhi on Wednesday afternoon and was taken to the Malappuram cooperative hospital. He was later shifted to the Kozhikode government medical college hospital.

According to sources, there were sunburn marks on his shoulder. Malappuram DMO said that Haneefa's death is suspected to be due to heatstroke.

DMO said that Haneefa had been working at the construction site from 6am and he had shown symptoms of seizure while fainting. When he was admitted to the hospital, he was unconscious, and his body temperature stood at 106 degrees Fahrenheit. Though he was given ventilator support and shifted to the medical college, he developed kidney issues. Haneefa leaves behind his wife Haseena and children Hannath, Aneesa, and Anas.

The second suspected heatstroke casualty was from Kozhikode. Kaniyeri Vinesh (41) of Panniyankara had collapsed after finishing a painting job at a house at Areakkad at 2.45pm on Tuesday. As he was frothing in the mouth, people suspected it to be a seizure, and took him to the Govt General Hospital and later to the Kozhikode govt medical college hospital where is died at 4.15am on Thursday. Vijesh leaves behind his mother Vasantha and siblings Vinod, Vineetha and Vijitha.
