Actors arrested in separate accident cases in Koc, Tvm
T'puram/Kochi: Police arrested actor Baiju Santhosh in an accident case in Thiruvananthapuram on Monday while the news of actor Srinath Bhasi's arrest in a separate accident case surfaced later in the evening.
Museum police arrested the 54-year-old actor around 12.30am on Monday for ramming a two-wheeler at Vellayambalam Junction in an inebriated state. Police seized his car and he was released on station bail later. Police said the accident happened around 11.45pm on Sunday when the actor was returning home from Kowdiar along with his relative.
At Vellayambalam round, the car hit a scooter and rammed the traffic signal post. The car came to a stop as the tyre was damaged. Soon, a police control room team was alerted and the officers rushed to the spot. The actor and the bike rider were taken into custody and they were taken to the general hospital for medical examination. The bike rider escaped with minor injuries.
Though the duty doctor asked the actor to give blood samples, he refused. The doctor issued a medical certificate stating that Santhosh was drunk, citing his ‘smell' and ‘gestures'. As per the FIR, the actor was charged under Section 281 of BNS (rash driving) and Section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act (driving under the influence of alcohol).
Meanwhile, police said a probe is underway to ascertain what factors led to the accident as CCTV footage showed that the scooter was speeding and eventually it was hit by the actor's car. Earlier, there were reports that the person inside the car was the actor's daughter Aishwarya Santhosh. Later, she came forward with a statement on social media that the person was his cousin's daughter.
Meanwhile, Ernakulam Central Police had booked Bhasi after a car, allegedly driven by the actor, knocked down and injured a two-wheeler rider at night on Sept 8. Central Police officers said his arrest was recorded and he was granted bail as it was a bailable offence. The accident occurred on Park Avenue Road and the rider fractured his right foot. The allegation was that the car didn't stop or rush the rider to a hospital. Sources said the actor's stand was that he didn't realize that an accident had happened.
The car was identified after a few days using CCTV footage and a part of the mirror which fell off. A senior officer said that they later confirmed it was Bhasi who was involved in the accident. His arrest was recorded later, said sources.
