Three members of a family drown in river in Nadapuram

Kozhikode: Three members of a family drowned in the Puliyavu river near Nadapuram on Saturday afternoon. The deceased have been identified as Areekundil Ansar (43), his wife Sauda (39) and Ansar's niece Isa Mariyam (8). The incident took place around 3.40pm on Saturday near Thazhakkuni bridge in Puliyavu. The family had gone to the river for washing clothes when the child, who was bathing, was caught in a deep current in the stretch of Mayyazhi river. Ansar and his wife drowned while trying to rescue her. Other children who were present alerted residents who rushed to the spot and carried out a search, eventually retrieving the bodies. All three were declared dead by the time they were brought to Nadapuram taluk hospital. After inquest proceedings at Nadapuram taluk hospital, the bodies were shifted to Kozhikode medical college hopsital for postmortem. Ansar is survived by his parents Ahmed and Amina, and daughter Afna Fathima.
