: A young scholar from Malappuram is preparing a book on Sree Narayana
Guru in Arabic, to introduce the renaissance leader and spiritual personality to the Gulf region.
K M Alavudeen Hudavi, hailing from Karuvarakkundu, is a research scholar in Arabic at the P T M Government College, Perinthalmanna, has authored a number of books in Arabic. “I decided to do a book on the Guru because I thought he should be introduced to the world outside, especially the Gulf,” Hudavi told TOI.
“It will basically be a biographical work based on the life of Guru. I have referred many of the available books on him for the book. He is a figure recognised by all religions. I also hope that the biography will be a part of the syllabus for the students of Arabic in the educational institutions in Kerala,” he said.
Hudavi had also translated M Mukundan’s magnus opus ‘Mayyazhippuzhayude Theerangalil.’ “Translation works are very difficult compared to independent initiatives. Finding the correct Arabic words while translating a creative work in Malayalam is a tough task. Those who read both the original and the translation have opined that the feeling of the novel is not lost in the translation,” Hudavi said.
Hudavi has also written two books on UAE Supreme Council member and Sharjah ruler Sultan bin Muhammad Al-Qasimi, which was released at the Sharjah International Book Fair. He has also authored a book on the former ruler of Oman and familiar figure for Malayalis, Sultan Qaboos, biography of late Panakkad Syed Muhammad Ali Shihab Thangal in Arabic and Malayalam translation of UAE poet Shihab Ghanem.
Hudavi has also contributed academic articles in international journals published from various parts of the world.
“Kerala has had a special relationship with the Arab world from time immemorial. Many Arab words have become a part of our daily life,” Hudavi, who had his education from Mahatma Gandhi University and Calicut University, said.
