Kozhikode: The Riyadh criminal court, which is considering the discharge petition of Kozhikode native Abdul Rahim, will hear the case again on Feb 2. Rahim has been imprisoned in the Saudi jail for 18 years.
Sources in the Abdul Rahim Legal Assistance Trust Committee said that the case would be taken up next by a division bench. While postponing the case, the court had on Wednesday observed that it needs detailed examination.
The court had in July last year revoked Abdul Rahim's death sentence as the victim's family decided to grant him freedom after accepting blood money of Rs 34 crore. Rahim was imprisoned in Saudi in connection with the death of the son of his Saudi sponsor. Rahim was arrested after the Saudi native died when his hand accidently hit the boy's life support device. The blood money to secure his release was raised was by crowd funding.
