KOZHIKODE: Sargotsav- 2013, the national handicrafts fest began at Sargalaya, Kerala Arts and Crafts Village, Iringal on Friday.
K Dasan, MLA Koyilandy inaugurated the fest. Artists and artisans from various states are participating in the 12-day long fete.
Workshops and classes by expert artisans will be the main attraction of the fest, said CEO of Sargalaya P P Bhaskaran.
Exhibition of paintings, sculptures and other craft items by the artists of Sargalaya will also be part of the fest, said T K Rajesh, general manager of Sargalaya.
Mega show, amusement park and boating are also being organized at the fest to attract visitors. Besides, artisans from other states have also reached Sargalaya with their craft items. Pavilions of National Institute of Design, Rand D Campus, Bangalore, National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) Kannur have also started at Sargalaya.
Dance and music nights are also organized at Sargalaya as part of Sargotsav 2013. The organizers in association with Kozhikode Rural police have also assured strict police surveillance and closed circuit TV monitoring in the craft village during the fest.
