Police arrest hotel owner who tried to molest staff

Kozhikode: Police arrested Devadas, the hotel owner who allegedly tried to sexually assault a woman employee on Saturday. Police picked up Devadas, who was travelling in a local bus, at Kunnamkulam late at night on Tuesday. The team is yet to nab the remaining accused, including the security guard of the hotel.Devadas and two others allegedly barged into the room where the woman was staying and allegedly tried to sexually assault her, following which she jumped from the first floor of her home in a bid to escape. The woman, who sustained fractures in the fall, is currently admitted at the Kozhikode Medical College. Recently, her family had released visuals of the woman being attacked by Devadas and two others right before she jumped.Thamarassery deputy SP AP Chandran said Devadas –who was absconding for three days – had tried to mislead the police by parking his car at the railway station parking lot. He then took a bus instead of boarding a train. He also added that there was no delay in nabbing the accused. Police tracked Devadas by checking his mobile tower locations and they confirmed his presence in a bus. After this, police stopped the bus midway and took him into custody.Police brought him to Mukkam early on Wednesday morning and later took him to the house where the woman was staying for evidence collection. The house is located near the hotel.BJP activists raised slogans in protest when he was brought to the woman's home for evidence collection. He was presented before Thamarassery chief judicial magistrate court in the evening and remanded in judicial custody. Mukkam SHO Anshad S said police were tracking the other accused and assured that they will be nabbed soon. "We are right behind them. They gave us the slip today.
