One more Sunni Tiger member held

Malappuram

: The special investigation team (SIT) probing the murder of RSS worker Sunil in Kunnamkulam in 1994, arrested one more accused in the case on Saturday.

The arrested has been identified as

Sulaiman

, native of Pallam in Cheruthuruthi.

According to the police, Sulaiman, who was the chief of Kasaragod and Kannur units of extremist organisation Jam-Iyyathul Ihsania (also known as Sunni Tiger Force), has already confessed his role in the murder of Sunil.

Recently the police had arrested Moinudeen, Usman and Yusafali, who were active workers of the organisation, in connection with the murder. Sulaiman was staying in a hideout when the police launched a search for him.

The deputy superintendent of police K A Suresh Babu said that Sulaiman was an accused in different theft cases, which were registered in different police stations in Thrissur from 1993 to 1994 and he was also convicted in a case related to the theft of antique materials in Andhra Pradesh in 2004.

In 2004, the high court ordered a reinvestigation into the murder of Sunil after acquitting the four CPM workers, who were earlier found guilty by the sessions court. It was the arrest of Moinudeen on October 12 in the Sunil murder case that led to the arrest of others.
