KOZHIKODE: A few answer papers that had gone missing from the Pareeksha Bhavan of the University of Calicut in September was, on Friday, returned after evaluation.
There was, however, a catch: the university had not sent the 17 answer sheets for evaluation. Police were probing the case, on a complaint by the university, when the teacher returned them, after awarding marks, to the general section.
Interestingly, the counterfoils—strips having the original registration numbers of the students—were not removed from the answer sheets. The examination wing was yet to answer how the teacher got the missing answer sheets.
The answer sheets of the general paper, ‘Culture and Civilization’ of the fourth semester BA-Economics and Sociology course was reported missing from the EDE section on September 30. The answer papers went missing after the staff at the section had affixed false numbers.
Suspecting foul play, the varsity had lodged a police complaint.Syndicate member H H Haneefa said an internal inquiry committee had categorically stated that the answer papers were not in the varsity.
“We lodged a police complaint considering the missing of the papers as a theft. How can a teacher evaluate the answer sheets with had the original registration numbers on them? Also, no official can accept them when submitted to the varsity. The entire episode is mysterious,” he added.
