Kerala assembly elections: Noorbina Rasheed resigns as Women’s League national general secretary
Kozhikode: IUML leader Noorbina Rasheed has resigned from her position as Vanitha League national general secretary citing severe neglect of the League's women's wing in candidate selection. Though IUML has fielded two women candidates this election — the highest number in its history — Rasheed said that they were not part of Vanitha League. IUML had nominated Jayanthi Rajan in Kuthuparamba constituency in Kannur and Fathima Thahiliya in Perambra constituency in Kozhikode. She said that many women leaders of Vanitha League were overlooked in favour of the two candidates. She said that Vanitha League had demanded that Thahiliya should not be given a seat as she was behind the Haritha controversy. However, Rasheed clarified that she would not leave the party. Meanwhile, IUML state general secretary PMA Salam said that Rasheed's act constituted serious violation of discipline and that a notice would be sent to her seeking explanation. In 2021, Rasheed had contested as IUML candidate in Kozhikode South constituency but was defeated by INL candidate Ahmed Devarkovil.
