KOZHIKODE: KSRTC commenced passenger service with the Nava Kerala bus used for the travel of chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan and his cabinet colleagues during the statewide Nava Kerala Sadas (NKS).
A glitch in the hydraulic door of the bus caused issues in its maiden trip. The door opened within half an hour of the commencement of the trip from Kozhikode bus stand at 4.30am on Sunday and the door was tied using the strap of a passenger's hand bag. The door's valve was reset by a mechanic at the Sultan Bathery depot. The bus, which was scheduled to reach Bengaluru at 11.35am, reached one hour and 30 minutes late.
The bus with 26 seat capacity operated services with full booking in both its onward and return journeys. Many passengers said that they had booked the journey to get a feel of the ride in the luxury bus used by the CM and cabinet colleagues.
The bus, which was procured at a cost of over Rs 1 cr, had grabbed headlines during the NKS and opposition had criticized the procurement of the luxury bus for NKS when the state was reeling under severe financial crisis.
The bus used for the 'Garuda Premium' interstate service also has washroom facility. Also, the hydraulic lift facility in the bus will come in handy for differently abled and elderly passengers.
The bus will start off from Kozhikode at 4am and reach Bengaluru at 11.35am. It will commence the return trip from Bengaluru at 2.30pm and will reach Kozhikode at 10.05pm. The ticket rate has been fixed at Rs 1,171 per person and online reservation is available.
