KOZHIKODE: State police have arrested Ibrahim alias Babu, 62, who has been acting as courier among the top Maoist leaders in the state.
According to police, Ibrahim was picked up from Kozhikode on Monday. He was arrested in connection with the case registered by Payyoli police. “We have been tracking him ever since the arrest of Rajeesh, an accomplice of Maoist leader Roopesh and Anup, two months ago from Payyoli.

He stayed with Anup at Payyoli for more than a month, said the police.
Ibrahim, who hails from Meppadi in Wayanad, was the courier for Maoist leader Shyna while she was hiding at a shelter in Tirupur in Tamil Nadu. The press statements and issues of Kattu Thee, official bulletin of the Maoists, were distributed through Ismail, who had visited Shyna many times at Coimbatore.
A worker of the erstwhile CRC-CPI (ML), Ibrahim became ‘inactive’ after a split in the party. He was again brought back to active politics by Roopesh during the land agitation in Meppadi. Both Roopesh and Ibrahim were jailed as part of the agitation.
Police said Ibrahim refused reveal his identity initially. “But we managed to establish his identity through persons who know him for years,” police said.
Ibrahim will be produced before the court on Tuesday.
