KANNUR: A 65-year-old man was allegedly shot dead by his neighbour at Pilicode in Kasaragod district on Sunday evening, who later surrendered before the police. The deceased, identified as KC Surendran, who resides near Someshwari temple in Pilicode, was shot dead by his neighbour P Sanal (35), who took up a quarrel with him over the waste disposal in Surendran’s compound.

According to police, the two had issues related to the boundary of their plots and they were not in good terms. On Sunday evening, when Surendran was burning the wastes, Sanal objected and had a quarrel. Though the neighbours pacified them in an effort to solve the issue, Sanal went inside his house and came with the air gun and shot at Surendran from close range instantly killing him. Surendran’s wife was also near him.

Before the neighbours could nab him Sanal escaped from the scene. Later, he surrendered in Cheemeni police station from where he was handed over to Chandera police, since the crime occurred in its jurisdiction.
