According to the corporation officials, it has earmarked a sum of Rs 80 lakh for the improvement of Aurobindo Ghosh Road. The drainage renovation of K P Kesava Menon Road will be carried out at a cost of Rs 20 lakh and a sum of Rs 60 lakh has been earmarked for the renovation of drain and footpath renovation of P T Usha Road under the annual plan for the financial year 2014-2015.
P Sasidharan, a resident of Karaparamba said that at present, the pedestrians find it difficult to walk on the footpaths on either side of the roads owing to its dilapidated conditions. “Potholes form on the roads within three to four months of repair works which shows poor quality of the work. It is high time that the civic body take measures to construct the roads which have long durability,” he said. K D Ajay Gosh, corporation superintendent engineer said that the widening of the road stretches were not included under the model road project. “The roads will be converted as model roads by providing pedestrian-friendly footpaths and drainages. The civic body will also apply bitumen macadam and bitumen concrete (BM & BC) to ensure the durability of the roads and will also carry out strict monitoring to avoid erecting banners and hoardings on both sides of the roads,” he said.
