KOZHIKODE
: Police on Monday resorted to lathi-charge at Vadakara to disperse consumers queued up in front of an outlet of Bevco (Beverages Corporation) despite prohibitory orders.
In a similar incident, a Bevco outlet was closed at Perambra following hullaballoo.
Under the prohibitory orders issued by the district collector, the assembly of more than five people is banned in the district. Though the people are following the direction of the district administration in majority of the areas, the theory of social distancing is not followed at the Bevco outlets.
Apart from the outlet at Vadakara, the Bevco outlets at Koyilandy and in Kozhikode city witnessed footfall of hundreds of people.
The police decided to use mild force as the people gathered in front of the Bevco outlet were reluctant to follow the directions given by the Bevco employees and police. Majority of the consumers were also reluctant to follow the direction regarding social distancing.
