Kozhikode mayor opens feeding room at the corporation main office

here on Wednesday inaugurated the

breastfeeding room

in the ground floor of the main office building of the Kozhikode corporation situated at

Kozhikode beach

. The centre will be helpful to lactating mothers who arrives to the Kozhikode corporation office for various purposes.

The

civic body

took the decision to set up feeding room after observing the difficulty being faced by the lactating mothers to feed their babies during the peak office hours. The move was initiated under the people’s friendly measures taken by the civic body to transform the corporation office as public friendly one. With the commissioning of feeding room, the mothers will be able to provide baby food and the lactating mothers can breastfeed their babies.

The room was set up under the 13th five-year plan programme of the civic body for the financial year 2017-2018. It was set up at a cost of Rs 1 lakh including the project under the public administration and finance working group. The feeding room has lights and fans and seating arrangements to feed the babies. The mothers can feed their babies and change their diapers at the room.

Social welfare standing committee chairperson

said that the decision to set up feeding room was taken after seeing the struggle of lactating mothers to breast feed the babies. `` Many lactating mothers think that they need to bring their new-born to register birth of their child and seen their struggle to feed their babies due to the absence of a feeding room,’’ she said.
