stale and substandard food items

during an inspection covering three hotels and a makeshift eatery outlet.


Substandard, expired and inconsumable food items worth 250kg including chicken, beef, prawn, rice, 'porota’, Chinese masala, pickle, 'pakodas’, fruits and oil with expiry date were recovered during the raid. The rotten and inconsumable food items were recovered from Solar hotel, Kottaram road; Five star Thattukkada at Bypass; Hotel Samovar and Hotel Kirthi.

Corporation health officer Dr RS Gopakumar said: ``Food is prepared at most

unhygienic atmosphere

at hotel Solar. We have also detected piled up waste near the kitchen and surrounding areas of hotel Solar. Apart from this, we have also come across staff without personal hygiene engaged in food preparation. A direction was given to close down hotel Solar and it was decided to open it only after it rectifies all the detected anomalies as it poses threat to the public health."

The inspection was conducted by a team comprising Dr R S Gopakumar; health supervisor M M Gopalan, health inspectors T K Prakasan, K C Muraleedharan and junior health inspectors K Shameer and Daison.
