Kozhikode corporation to issue license to 136 street vendors by December

KOZHIKODE: Mayor Thottathil Raveendran here on Monday said that the civic body will issue licenses to 136

. Addressing the gathering after handing over the licenses to street vendors at

Kozhikode

beach at a function held at Kozhikode beach here on Monday evening, mayor said that the licenses will be distributed by next month.


He said that the civic body has initiated the rehabilitation of street vendors working in the unorganized sector under the livelihood protection scheme of the National Urban Livelihood Mission (

NULM

). The tiles will be paved on the marked vending zones at the Kozhikode beach for vending carts to operate. The civic body will ensure drinking water and electricity to the street vendors at the beach, added Raveendran.

Mayor said that the civic body will set up vending zones in all corporation areas in a phased manner. He said that with this move the civic body became the first corporation in the state to issue license to street vendors.
