NEW DELHI: A youth who reportedly swallowed two packets of synthetic drug MDMA upon seeing the police died on Saturday morning while undergoing treatment, police said. The deceased was identified as Shanid, 28, a native of Mykavu, near Kozhikode in Kerala.

Police arrested him when he ingested two MDMA packets upon spotting police and tried to escape in Thamarassery on Friday.

He was subsequently taken to Kozhikode Government Medical College Hospital, where an endoscopy revealed two packets with white granules in his stomach, according to police sources.

Hospital authorities confirmed that he passed away at approximately 11.20 am on Saturday, despite medical intervention.

The police have filed charges against him under the NDPS Act.

Officials stated that Shanid had several drug-related cases registered against him at Thamarassery and Kodencherry police stations in the district.

They further indicated that the precise cause of death would be determined following a postmortem examination.
