Though the Innova with registration number KL-07 CD 6887 is registered in the name of Shamseer’s brother Shahir, it was regularly used by the MLA. He had even come to party district committee meeting in the car.

Nazeer said there are evidences to prove that the conspiracy to kill him was hatched in the car by a local CPM leader, N K Rajesh, who was the former office secretary of CPM’s

Thalassery

area committee office, and a local goon Pottiyan Santhosh.

Both the men were later arrested and Santhosh has even confessed that Ragesh came to meet him in the same car. Though the police later said the vehicle would be taken into custody after their arrest, they didn’t do so. Subsequently, the Congress strengthened its agitation and Nazeer decided to move court demanding a CBI probe into the incident.

As of now, 10 people have been arrested in the case and only Rajesh has got bail. Now that the car has been taken into custody, police could possibly question Shamseer as well. However, investigating officials refused to comment on it.

It was on the evening of May 18 that Nazeer, who was an independent candidate from Vadakara

Lok Sabha

constituency, was attacked at Kayyath Road in Thalassery. He suffered serious injuries in the assault.

Though the CPM claimed that it has no role in the attack, Nazeer alleged that it was Shamseer who plotted the murder attempt, sparking a controversy.

He even alleged that the conspiracy was a result of a rift within the CPM and the aim was to falsely implicate a senior leader. Former district secretary P Jayarajan, who was the CPM candidate in Vadakara, visited Nazeer in the hospital immediately after the attack and said the party had no role in it.
