Kerala floods: Civil police officer donates Rs 1 lakh to CM's Distress Relief Fund

It was on Saturday that Sreejish handed over a cheque of Rs 1 lakh to chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan in Thiruvananthapuram on Saturday. Sreejish, who is also the secretary of the Kozhikode city committee of

Kerala Police association

, has become an inspiration for the rest of his colleagues with his act.

"Last year, I had contributed my one month salary towards the CMDRF," said Sreejish. As our district was one of the worst affected in the recent floods, I decided to contribute a higher amount, he said.

According to Sreejish, the flood hit the state when he was planning to construct a new house. "I decided to postpone the construction and limit the expenses and contributed the amount to CMDRF," Sreejish shared.

The civil police officer hailing from Kakkodi has been working with the

Kerala Police

for the past 15 years. Apart from his personal contribution, Sreejish and his association was able to collect essentials worth Rs 15 lakh for the flood victims.

A collection point opened by the city units of Kerala Police Association and Kerala Police Officers’ Association collected food items, cloths, mats and other essentials from policemen and public and distributed in the relief camps in Kozhikode city during the flood days.

After ensuring the distribution of relief materials to the inmates of camps in Kozhikode, we could send a truck load of relief materials to Wayanad also, said Sreejish.

"Police persons directly interact with lot of people and we can realise the problems faced by them," said Sreejish. Our experience helps us empathize with the situation, he said thanking his parents and wife for the support.
