Kanthapuram discusses social and educational issues with PM Modi
Kozhikode: Sunni leader Kanthapuram A P Aboobacker Musaliyar met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence in New Delhi on Monday morning. Later, Modi wrote a post on social media platform ‘X' saying he exchanged views on a wide range of issues with Kanthapuram and added that Kanthapuram's efforts to further social harmony, brotherhood and improve education were noteworthy.Kanthapuram said he discussed social, humanitarian, educational and developmental issues along with matters concerning minority welfare and international developments with Modi. He added that political matters did not come up for discussion at the meeting.Addressing reporters after the 30-minute meeting, Kanthapuram said he brought to the PM's attention the demands raised by various sections of society during his Kerala Yatra in Jan. The theme of his yatra was ‘with humans'. National security adviser Ajit Doval was present at the meeting."I had submitted a representation on the demands received during the yatra to the CM. I also submitted the same representation to the PM and he said the Centre would examine and consider the matters which fall under its purview," he said.Kanthapuram said discussions also covered inclusive development for all sections of society, the importance of giving due consideration to happiness indices and human development alongside economic growth, the need for proportionate and regionally-balanced allocation of resources, concerns related to waqf and SIR, protection of ancient mosques and Islamic heritage monuments and restoration of minority education welfare schemes, including Maulana Azad National Fellowship.
In a Facebook message, Kanthapuram said the PM told him that he closely follows the educational and social welfare initiatives carried out under the leadership of Jamiyyathul Ulama and Kanthapuram-led Markaz. He said the PM commended their efforts that enhance India's global reputation.Kanthapuram said the issue of development of Aligarh Muslim University's Malappuram Centre and the need for closer engagement between Centre and minority communities across the country also came up for discussion at the meeting. Secretary of Samastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulema Perod Abdurrahman Saqafi and SYS president Muhammad Abdul Hakeem Azhari were also present at the meeting.
