Kannur man held for running lucky draw to find fund for wife’s treatment
Kannur: Police arrested a man for allegedly trying to sell his house and other properties through a lucky draw to raise funds for the treatment of his wife at Adakkathode in Kelakam, Kannur.The arrested man has been identified as Benny Thomas. According to the police, Benny decided to sell his 3,300-square feet house, 26 cent land, his cars and a motorcycle through a lucky draw. His plan was to sell lucky coupons of Rs 1,500 each. The case was registered based on a complaint lodged by the state lottery department, citing the running of a lottery by individuals as illegal.The sale of the coupon had started in March and the lucky draw was scheduled to be held in Dec second week. However, the date was postponed as Benny failed to sell the expected number of tickets. Finally, he decided to conduct the draw when at least 80% of the tickets were sold out.
