Kerala jawan’s wife declines CM’s police job offer

KOZHIKODE: Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who visited the house of martyred CRPF havildar V V Vasantha Kumar at Thrikkaipetta in Wayanad on Wednesday, said that if the martyr’s wife Sheena was not interested in continuing working as an assistant at the Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (KVASU), she would be appointed as a sub-inspector in the police department.
The state cabinet had on Tuesday decided to make Sheena—who is a BCom graduate and at present a temporary employee—a permanent staf at the university.
However, Sheena has informed the chief minister that she would not take up the police job as she prefered a permanent job at KVASU. “She said she favours the job at KVASU as she is familiar with the job and the varsity is near to her house,” said Sajeev V R, Kumar’s cousin.
Vijayan also spoke to the deceased soldier’s daughter Anamika, son Amar Deep and mother Shanta and assured them all support from government.
The chief minister said that the government would construct a new house for the family either on their own land at Lakkidi or on a nearby public land. Vijayan also conveyed the government decision to bear the educational expenses of Kumar’s children.
Sheena handed over a memorandum to Vijayan urging issuance of title deed for the land held by the family at Lakkidi and to grant a job to Kumar’s sister Vasumitha V V.
The family also requested the chief minister’s intervention in posting Kumar’s cousin Sajeev—who is currently employed with the ports department at Kottapuram near Kogungallur—in Wayanad district on deputation as he is now looking after the affairs of the bereaved family.
The chief minister assured the family that the requests would be looked into.
The chief minister, accompanied by wife Kamala Vijayan, reached the ancestral house of Kumar at Thrikkaipetta at 8.50am, and spent 15 minutes with the family.
Industries minister E P Jayarajan, ports minister Ramachandran Kadannappally, MLAs C K Saseendran O R Kelu, district collector A R Ajayakumar, among others were present during the visit. Kumar, who had served in the CRPF for 18 years, was killed in the Pulwama terror attack on February 14.
