IUML to hand over 50 houses to Wayanad landslide survivors on Feb 28
Kozhikode: Fifty houses under the rehabilitation project conceived by IUML for victims of Mundakkai- Chooralmala landslide disaster in Wayanad will be handed over on Feb 28.The draw to select beneficiaries of the individual houses was held. Out of 105 total beneficiaries, the first phase will provide homes to 50 selected families. The houses were each constructed on eight cents of land in Mukkamkunnu in Meppadi panchayat.
Each home measures 1,060 square feet and is designed with three bedrooms and the potential to add an additional upper floor in the future. The Muslim League acquired 12 acres of land across three sites along Muttill–Meppadi road for the project. IUML district general secretary T Mohammed said, the houses for the remaining beneficiaries in the second phase will be completed by May. The project will have a park, amphitheatre and community centre. The homes and land will be registered in the name of the beneficiaries. IUML state president Panakkad Sadikkali Shihab Thangal will hand over the keys. Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi will also attend the event. In his budget speech, finance minister K N Balagopal said the first batch of homes for Wayanad landslide survivors will be handed over in the third week of Feb. Balagopal said the construction of 410 homes was progressing at Elston Estate. Govt officials said 178 beneficiaries will be allotted homes in phase-I, with allocation to be decided through a draw of lots. Phase-II allotment is scheduled for May.
