Investigation underway into allegations of tree felling by senior police officers in Malappuram

KOZHIKODE: The special team which is investigating the allegations levelled by Nilambur MLA P V Anvar against senior police officers including former Malappuram district chief S Sujith Das has directed former Perumbadappu sub-inspector Sreejith N to appear before the team to record his statement in connection with the complaint he had lodged against Das over alleged felling of trees in the DPC's camp office.

In his complaint, Sreejith, who was suspended from service earlier, had alleged that as per the directions of Das, the teak trees along with a branch of a mahogany tree, were felled and the mahogany wood was used to make a dining table and eight chairs which were kept at the camp office. Later, when a Nilambur native person lodged a complaint against Das, the furniture was removed from the camp office.

Anvar had written to SP S Sasidharan on Aug 23 seeking a detailed probe and action on the complaint lodged by Sreejith alleging that teak and mahogany trees were felled from the camp office compound in 2021. He had also included the tree felling allegation in the complaint he had submitted to the chief minister. Also, a clip of the conversation between Das and Anvar had surfaced in which Das is heard urging Anvar not to proceed with the complaint regarding tree felling from the camp office.

Sreejith has been asked to provide a statement before Thrissur Range DIG Thomson Jose in Thrissur on Monday.
