KOZHIKODE: District medical officer (DMO) Dr R L Saritha has said that the health department here has taken all the preventive measure against Zika virus in the wake of landing of Brazilian team taking part in the Sait Nagjee football tournament in the district. The outbreak of zika virus was reported in Brazil.
The DMO said that department has taken the step to avoid the players getting the bites of mosquitos as team from Brazil is taking part in the tournament.

"The health department has taken preventive measures in the wake of worldwide emergency declared by the World Health Organisation against zika virus. A total of eight international teams have been participating in the sait Najee tournament,’’ said the DMO.
The health department has already taken steps for the elimination of mosquito breeding.
"The officials have conducted fogging at three hotels where the Brazilian team is staying and at the ground where the team members conducting daily practice to avoid the team members getting bites of mosquitoes,'' said the DMO adding that the aedes aegypti which is spreading dengue and chikungunaya is also responsible for the transmission of zika virus. The health department has entrusted a medical team from Kozhikode Medical College to supervise the work and to submit daily report.
The DMO handed over a union government guidelines issued against Zika virus to Kozhikode District Football Association president Dr Siddeek Ahamed.
Dr Siddique Ahamed said that the team arrived in the country after the health check-up and taking precautionary tablet against the spread of virus.
