awareness programme. The special campaign was initiated to mark pink October observation under season four of the ZAHRI initiative of the medical college’s union.

The MBBS students took classes at educational institutions at

, Kozhikode, Idukki,

, Palakkad and Kannur districts till now. The session was conducted for students from high school till graduation. It covered topics such as risk factors, early symptoms and the importance of self-examination for early detection.

An interaction session is being organised to allow the students and public to clear their apprehensions and doubts regarding breast cancer.

The college’s student union also organised pink stories- a special session featuring cancer survivors. It also conducted a hair donation camp to create public awareness about cancer.

The students also distributed pamphlets on breast cancer to bystanders of patients at the various wards of Kozhikode Government Medical college hospital, Institute of Maternal and child health and super specialty. A base team comprising 20 MBBS students coordinated the entire month-long campaign. I Sreeranjini, coordinator of season four of ZAHRI said that they have been receiving good response for the special campaign.

“We have received good response, especially from thousands of bystanders and relatives of patients who arrive at the various hospitals in the medical college campus for treatment. People are of the wrong notion that breast cancer is detected in women alone, now people are aware that men are equally prone,” she said.
