Eight-year-old petitions cops against sister for not playing with him
KOZHIKODE:
When injustice was meted out to him, he promptly complained to the nearest authority. His
Umar, aged eight, obliged. He pulled out a paper and drafted a complaint in English, which he handed over to janamaithri police, when they visited his neighbourhood.
The complaint was against his elder sister and four other little girls for not adding him in their play group. Additionally, they teased him too.
Earlier, they had refused Umar’s request to join them to play ludo, shuttle badminton and police and thief.
Disappointed, Umar had complained to his father, who refused to intervene in the issue, but advised him to complain to the police.
On receiving the complaint, civil police officers U P Umesh and K T Niraz of Kasaba police station visited Umar’s house and mediated with the parties involved. They managed to get the girls agree to include Umar in their group.
The officers also advised the girls against teasing him.
“The boy was feeling lonely and we thought that his issue warranted attention,” a police officer said.
“He had approached us directly with the complaint and we acted promptly to protect his trust in the police force and give him the confidence to approach the police to address his issues,” the officer added.
