KOZHIKODE: The enforcement directorate officials conducted searches in the

Kannur District Co-operative Bank

, the main branch of

Kozhikode District Cooperative Bank

and the

Thrissur District Cooperative Bank

on Wednesday.
The ED officials enquired about the deposits collected by the banks after the Central government decided to demonetize high-value currency notes. “There was nothing suspicious in our records and we fully cooperated with the officials,“ said a managerial staff in the Kannur bank. He said there were around five members in the team that conducted the search and they completed it before noon.

Bank president A K Balakrishnan said the officials provided all facilities for the enforcement officials to verify the documents. “We have nothing to hide and our offi cials showed them all the records they asked for verification but they could not find any sort of irregularities,“ he said. The inspection at the bank in Kozhikode started around 10am and continued till late in the evening. The ED officials are likely to continue the inspection on Thursday as well. Bank officials claimed that the ED officials were satisfied with the documents and could not find any irregularities. They said they would be able to divulge more details only after getting formal clearance from the ED.The enforcement officials were not available for comment.

said the ED officials sought details of the Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currencies deposited in the bank after the they were banned.

The details of societies, which had deposited of over Rs 1crore were also sought by the ED officials.
