Kozhikode: State govt has ordered a vigilance probe into the allegations of financial irregularities being raised in connection with the deaths of Wayanad district Congress committee treasurer N M Vijayan and his son.
The vigilance team will also look into allegations of financial irregularities against MLA I C Balakrishnan.
It has been alleged that Vijayan collected money from many individuals for bank appointments and that Balakrishnan was involved in this. Currently, the Sultan Bathery DSP is probing the suicides. Preliminary findings suggest Vijayan had dealings with at least 10 banks. Investigations are also ongoing to collect details regarding the loan liabilities in more banks.
Meanwhile, a complaint regarding bribery in bank appointments involving Vijayan and others have been filed with the district police chief. The complaint alleges that Rs 3 lakh was given to former president K K Gopinathan to secure a job at the Bathery Agricultural Rural Development Bank.
