The CPM has selected the death anniversary of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat for holding the rally and the venue will also be named as Yasser Arafat Nagar.

More significantly, the CPM has decided to invite leaders of various Muslim organizations, including the Samastha Kerala Jem Iyyathul Ulema, the influential body of Sunni religious scholars, and the Kerala Muslim Jama'ath and Mujahid factions for the rally, which is seen as yet another attempt by the Left party to reach out to the Muslim community.

CPM Kozhikode district secretary P Mohanan said they are hopeful about the participation of Samastha.

"Samastha is an organization which has been in recent times responding positively and in a humanistic manner towards such issues. It is an organization which has the capability to analyse the stand of the CPM and other organizations in such matters in a factual and creative manner," he told media.

Mohanan said the party has not thought about extending an invitation to IUML as of now.

CPM leader and general convener of the organizing committee, K T Kunhikannan said various political and cultural organizations will also be invited for the rally and added that the party has not taken any decision as of now on deciding parties which are in the UDF.

Two factions of Sunnis and three Mujahid groups and other Muslim organizations had attended the seminar organized by the CPM on Uniform Civil Code in July even though the IUML had turned down the invitation.

The IUML had not invited Samastha or other Muslim organizations for the Palestine solidarity rally it had organized at the Kozhikode beach on Friday. However, many Samastha activists and a leader of SYS, a frontal organization of Samastha, had attended the event.
