KANNUR: The Congress and the Revolutionary Marxist Party (RMP) have said that it would be suicidal for the CPM to welcome the BJP rebels who formed the NaMo Vichar Manch.
"The decision to welcome the Manch leaders is a last ditch effort by the CPM to survive in the political scene here," said Congress leader and MP K Sudhakaran in a press conference here on Monday.

RMP district secretary P Mohanan said O K Vasu decided to join the CPM because he is an accused in the murder of CPM worker Ajayan Parambath at Kunnathuparamba in 2009. The RMP leader said many CPM workers are planning to quit the party and the decision to organize a welcome to the BJP rebels in Panur is intended to retain such workers within the party.
However, the CPM leaders said there is no change in the decision to organize a welcome for the BJP rebels and that the meeting will be inaugurated by party state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan.
Meanwhile, BJP observed a hartal in Chavassery near Panur on Monday after unidentified persons hurled a bomb at Yuva Morcha unit president Pradeepan near Akkapparambaaround 8.30am. He has escaped unhurt. BJP alleged that Pradeepan was attacked by the CPM. Police have intensified vigil.
Police also recovered nine high-intensity country bombs from a vacant plot at Poyiloor near Panur. Police have intensified vigil as rebels who quit BJP will formally join CPM on Tuesday at a meeting in Panur, to be inaugurated by CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan.
