KANNUR
: Even in the time of Covid-19 crisis, fund is pouring into the CM’s Disaster Relief Fund (CMDRF), but this one from Kasaragod has something unique to it, as the contribution was made by a family where six persons were infected with Covid-19, and later they all recovered without any complication.
The family of Ali Askar, who tested positive for Covid-19 after he returned from Dubai, said that they decided to contribute Rs 1 lakh to the CM's relief fund as a gesture of gratitude towards health workers for providing excellent care and boosting their confidence when they were in the hospitals fighting the disease.
Askar, resident of Eriyal in Mogral Puthur, who came back from Dubai on March 16, tested positive on March 21. Later his wife, mother, sister-in-law and also her two daughters got infected. Following this, five houses in the locality, including that of the relatives', were isolated and the family faced blames from different corners, but the hospital staff and health officials gave them the confidence to move on, said the family praising the
Kerala model.
After curing, the general feeling was that the obligation should not be expressed in words alone and hence the trust under the family, Ummath Foundation, decided to contribute Rs 1 lakh to the CM's relief fund, they said.
The cheque was handed over to district collector D Sajith Babu on May 7.
