Communists cannot even contemplate misusing martyr fund, says CPM MLA T I Madhusoodhanan
Kozhikode: In his first public response to the allegations raised by expelled CPM leader V Kunhikrishnan regarding irregularities in fund collection, Payyannur MLA T I Madhusoodhanan asserted that communists would never even contemplate misusing martyr's fund or diverting a single paisa for personal purposes. Addressing a reception for Vikasana Munnetta Yatra at Vellur, the hometown of Kunhikrishnan, Madhusoodhanan said that the family of slain CPM worker C V Dhanraj was the party's own family. He pointed out that some were now asking how much had been collected for the Dhanraj martyr fund, how much was spent on constructing the house for the family, and how the money was utilized. "Does anyone think CPM would insult the family by making such details public?" he asked. Madhusoodhanan further said the allegations were being raised at a time when the trial in the Dhanraj case was under way at the Taliparamba sessions court. "What are these attempts meant to whitewash? Whom are they trying to help? Is this an effort to weaken the case before the court considers it?" he asked. Madhusoodhanan also said CPM was not a party where an individual could impose diktats and control the organization at will.
He added that during one of the receptions for the march, Dhanraj's wife had stepped forward to welcome the procession and had urged him to move ahead with determination. He also dismissed allegations of irregularities in the collection of funds for election purposes and for the construction of the party's area committee office. Meanwhile, a fund-raising campaign has been launched under the aegis of Jagratha Payyannur to purchase a new motorcycle for Prasannan, a supporter of Kunhikrishnan whose bike was allegedly set on fire on Jan 26 for backing the expelled leader. CPM expelled Kunikrishnan after he levelled charges of irregularities and misappropriation of funds including the Dhanraj martyr funds, the 2021 assembly election fund collected in Payyannur and the area committee office construction fund. His book ‘Nethruthwathe Anigal Thiruthanam' (Followers Should Correct the Leadership) was released in Payyannur recently.
