Committee to recommend the government to set up separate haematology centre
The BPPC urged the committee to take steps to set up haematology centre so that patients suffering from various blood related disorders irrespective of age groups can approach same centre to avail the treatment.
KOZHIKODE: Kerala Legislative Committee on Petitions sitting held at the Kozhikode district panchayat hall on Wednesday decided to submit a recommendation to the state government to set up a separate haematology centre at the Kozhikode Government Medical College Hospital (KGMCH) to treat patients with various blood related disorders irrespective of their age groups.

A decision in this regard announced by Kerala Legislative Committee on Petitions chairman Raju Abraham MLA while considering the complaints pertaining to it submitted by Blood Patients Protection Council (BPPC). The BPPC urged the committee to take steps to set up haematology centre so that patients suffering from various blood related disorders irrespective of age groups can approach same centre to avail the treatment.
At present, patients belonging to the age group of below 18 years suffering from Thalassemia, sickle cell anaemia and haemophilia approaching Institute of material and child health for the treatment their treatment. The BPPC also urged the committee to ensure treatment for patients of all the age groups.
The committee also decided to submit a recommendation to the government to cancel the license of private hospitals that fail to carry out counselling of relatives of patients before conducting major operations.
A total of 13 complaints were taken up during the sitting and the committee received another seven fresh complaints on the occasion.
