KOZHIKODE: LDF convener E P Jayarajan said the construction of the temple at Ayodhya at the site where the demolished masjid stood was against Hindu faith and dharma, and against its rituals.
Jayarajan made the remarks while inaugurating the harmony meet organised by Indian National League (INL) under the slogan 'Don't set fire to religion, don't murder secular India' on Monday.
That the BJP is in power at the Centre is the biggest disaster which the country has been facing, said Jayarajan. He added the BJP was destroying democracy and the secular and federal principles of the nation.
"What BJP aims is a vote bank by combining religion and politics. They are continuing with the fascist agenda for creating such a vote bank. The nation will be in danger if we cannot thwart that attempt," he said.
Jayarajan released the book 'Indonesia - A temple-rich Muslim country' by handing over a copy to writer P K Parakkadavu.
INL state president Ahammed Devarkovil presided over the function. MLA K T Jaleel, Parakkadavu, Swami Vishwa Bhadrananda Shakthi Bodhi, Ali Abdulla, Ummer Faizi Mukkam, CPI district secretary K K Balan, INL state general secretary Kassim Irikkoor and state secretary M I Latheef spoke at the function.
Opposition leader V D Satheesan said mixing faith with politics to target electoral gain is questioning the very essence of the Constitution and democracy.
Satheesan also said Sangh's Ram was the one in the words uttered by Mahatma Gandhi when he was assassinated. tnn
