KANNUR: Within 48 hours of the murder of a CPM worker at

Valankichal

near Anjarakkandy in the district, a BJP worker, identified as Remith, has been hacked to death in Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s home town raising concern about the escalating violence.

It was on Wednesday morning, around 10 am, that the BJP worker was hacked to death in broad daylight near the petrol pump in Kannur district by an unidentified gang. He suffered a deep wound on his neck and died before reaching the hospital.

It is suspected that the murder of Remith is an act of retaliation to avenge the murder of CPM worker

K Mohanan

on Monday.

The murder took place hardly half a kilometer away from the house of

Pinarayi

Vijayan. So far five people have been murdered in the district ever since the LDF government came to power.

In May 2002, Remith’s father Chodon Uthaman, who was a bus driver was hacked to death by a gang that had dragged him out of the bus near Keezhur.
