), a pan India organisation of all National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers (NABH) accredited hospitals has identified Aster Malabar Institute of Medical Sciences, Kozhikode as a centre for Quality Promotion (CQP). With the identification of

CAHO is a platform of all accredited hospitals to promote and continuously improve the quality and safety of healthcare services in India. CAHO has, towards enabling hospitals to secure NABH accreditation chosen Aster MIMS to function as CQP, one of eleven centers recognized in India.

Dr Vijay Agarwal, president of CAHO said “Out of over 50000 hospitals in the country, those with NABH accreditation, was well below 600 and there was a long way to go to achieve NABH standards across the country. The NABH has started a Pre Accreditation Entry Level Certification to help hospitals to achieve accreditation in a phased manner through CQPs. Under the guidance of NABH and Quality Council of India (QCI), CAHO has trained over 240 professionals with the ability to coach and train others through its CPQIH (Certified Professionals for Quality Implementation in Hospitals) program. Aster MIMS is the 1st hospital to achieve Centre for Quality Promotion status in North Malabar region and 11th hospital in the country," he said.

Dr Abraham Mammen, Head Quality Assurance, Aster MIMS received the certificate for CQP from Dr. Vijay Agarwal, President, Consortium of Accredited Healthcare Organisations at a function held at Aster MIMS auditorium. Dr Ajitha P N, President, Indian Medical Association Kozhikode branch; Dr Narendra Nath Jena - national secretary, SEMI (Society for Emergency Medicine India) and Dr Fabith Moideen- president, SEMI, Kerala Chapter attended the function.

Aster MIMS also organised two day training programme on NABH Certification for Emergency department standards. Thirty five participants from across the Kerala, Tamilnadu and Bangalore attended and benefited from the training.
