6 policemen suspended for leaking info to sand mafias
Kasaragod: Kasaragod district police chief B V Vijaya Bharat Reddy has suspended six police officers attached to the Kumbla station for allegedly leaking operational details to sand smuggling mafia. The disciplinary action followed a preliminary investigation by station house officer (SHO) Sreejesh.The suspended officers are senior civil police officers P M Abdul Salam, A K Vinod Kumar and Linesh, civil police officers A M Manu and M K Anoop and police vehicle driver Krishna Prasad.The unholy nexus between the policemen and sand mining mafia came to light after the arrest of a tipper truck driver, Moideen, a month ago for allegedly smuggling sand. While checking his call records, police found that he was in regular contact with the suspended officers and they leaked operational information to the sand mining gang.Kumbla SHO Sreejesh reported the findings to Kasaragod DSP C K Sunil Kumar who forwarded the report to district police chief. Based on this report, Reddy suspended the officers on Wednesday evening.A detailed probe was also ordered by the district police chief into the incident. DSP Varghese Alexander is leading the investigation.
